Stuff.

Having Stuff is nice when you need it. Not so nice when it's time to get rid of it.

Looking Forward

I had my first German class today. The schedule was wrong and I showed up a half hour late, so I didn't learn very much. I did get complimented on how I said 'es ist acht uhr.' The woman teaching the class, Gertrude, offered to give me private lessons, since everyone else in the beginning class has studied German before. I think she saw the desperation in my face.

It's fun to start taking my first steps looking forward, instead of just focusing on all of the practical things that need to be done here before we move. (Although, now that I mention it, argh there is a lot!)

***Siggghhhhhh***

My SO S. has been gone now for 2 weeks, and I have about 10 days of solitude left. The novelty (what little there was) has completely worn off. I'm good company up to a point, but that point has been passed and I'm ready to have my best friend back. S. is an astronomer, and so at least once a year he heads off to a telescope for about a month. When he's gone, I get to talk to him maybe once a week, usually as he's crawling into bed after a long night observing. So, **sighhhh***

On the bright side, Spring has Sprung:

My First Skirt

Ok, that's probably not actually true. I sewed a few things when I was much younger, but have completely forgotten how to do anything. And now doing it without my very proficient mother looking over my shoulder, giving me help! (Although she has been summoned by phone call several times)

I decided I'd better get some hobbies in order before we get to Munich, so I dragged out the old sewing machine and got her going again. For my first project, I chose the skirt out of Built By Wendy's Sew U using Amy Butler's Belle Chrysanthemum in Blue

I put in the zipper yesterday. This photo does not display the full wonky-ness of said zipper, but it does zip! I'm counting that as a success.

Today, the facing. I'm using a contrasting color of the same fabric. The colors don't really come across in this photo, but it does match, I promise!

I'll post a photo of the skirt when it is all put together. So far, I've been liking this pattern, but some of Wendy's descriptions of how to do things are a bit head-scratch inducing and I've had to consult other sources for definitions and techniques.

Lara On the Move

This blog is for me to document and share my experience packing up my life and moving it across an ocean! But until then, I'll just share a bit about my life now.
